FAQ

How long will it take to get my finished trophy?

We have a 6-10 month turnaround time from the date of deposit and final pose instruction sign-off.

Do I need to do any preparation on the taxidermy side BEFORE my hunt?

Yes! Brush up on proper field care. How you handle your trophy in the field makes a big difference when it comes to taxidermy. Download our field care guide for tips and instructions. If you are going with a guide or PH, they will be able to properly take care of your trophies in the field. For shipping instructions, please visit our shipping page under the “Resources” tab.

Should I salt my skins before bringing them to you?

Absolutely not! Leave all that up to us. There is a lot of work that still happens to your cape after you drop it off to prep for tanning. Salt slows down that process. Treat the skin as if you would a piece of meat you are going to eat. You would not salt your meat and then put it in the fridge or freezer for days, right?! The most important thing is to make sure you keep the hide cool.

What do I do after I harvest the animal before it gets to you?

Proper field care is essential to having a great taxidermy mount. Get it caped off the animal and cooled as quickly as possible. Do not salt your cape. For additional field care tips, please download our Field Care Guide under the “Resources” tab. This will give you information on proper field care and skinning tips. If you have any questions before you head out on your hunt, please do not hesitate to call us.

What do you look for in cape quality when you receive the hide?

When your hide arrives, we look it over thoroughly to assess its quality. We look for deterioration on the cape that occurs if it has not been cooled quickly enough, hair slippage, holes, or bald spots. Smaller holes can be sewn and fixed, but larger areas cannot be replaced. If we determine that your cape is not able to be used, we will suggest alternatives or cape replacement options.

Do I have to pick the pose or do you recommend poses?

You are more than welcome to pick your own pose, but we are also available to make suggestions based on location, size, and needs. We are happy to help guide you on posing if you are not sure what you would like or if you want something really dynamic.

Do you have any tips for cleaning trophies?

  • Avoid direct sunlight, excessive heat, touching, or over-handling your trophies. Do not use harsh-cleaning products.
  • Gently clean your mounts with a feather duster or soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • You can also use a vacuum on low pressure to dust your trophies or blow off dust with an air compressor. This works well for trophies with habitat. Air in a can is also helpful.
  • To clean the eyes, use a Q-tip with a small amount of Windex
  • To clean antlers, use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe clean.

Should I worry about bugs?

We utilize the highest quality products in all of our mounts. The products and glue we use contain bug-resistant ingredients to prevent mold and bug infestation. All of our work that leaves our facility is guaranteed.
